What Phone Repairs Does TechBrotherz Do?

TechBrotherz repairs the five things that account for almost every phone that comes through the door: cracked screens, worn battery, charging ports that have stopped holding a cable, cameras that will not focus or show a black frame, and back glass that has shattered. Screen replacement is the most common repair by a wide margin, and on most models it is finished in about 30 minutes.

Beyond those five, we replace earpieces, loudspeakers, power buttons, volume buttons and home buttons. Those are smaller jobs, and on most handsets they take under an hour. If a phone has a fault that is not on the list, bring it in and we will tell you honestly whether it is something we can fix or something that needs the manufacturer.

We work on Iphone, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel handsets, and take Motorola, LG and other Android phones at the same store. Apple and Samsung make up most of the volume, which is why the model catalogue on this site is deepest on those two. Everything else is quoted at the Store once we have the model in front of us and know what the part costs.

What Is the Difference Between a Cracked Screen and a Broken LCD?

A phone screen is two layers bonded together: the digitizer, which is the touch-sensitive glass you press, and the LCD or OLED panel underneath, which produces the picture. A cracked screen means the glass is broken. A broken LCD means the panel underneath has failed, which shows up as black patches, coloured lines, a bleeding white glow or a display that stays dark.

The distinction matters because it is the single biggest driver of what a repair costs. On almost every modern phone the two layers are laminated together at the factory and have to be replaced as one assembly, so cracked glass and a dead panel cost the same to fix. On some older IPads and a handful of older Android phones the layers are separate, and replacing just the glass is much cheaper.

You do not need to work out which one you have before you come in. Bring the phone to the Store and we will tell you in a minute, because the price we quote depends on it and we would rather show you than guess.

How Long Does a Phone Repair Take?

Most phone repairs at TechBrotherz take about 30 minutes, and they are done while you wait. Screen replacements, battery replacements and camera swaps all fall in that range on the models we stock parts for. Charging port work takes longer, usually around 45 minutes, because the port is soldered or deeply seated on most handsets and the phone has to come apart further.

Two things change that estimate. If the part for your model is not in stock, we order it in, which usually means a day or two rather than the same visit. If the phone has water damage, we cannot give a time at all until it has been opened, cleaned and tested, because water damage is a diagnosis and not a fixed repair.

We will always tell you the expected time at the Store before you decide. If you have somewhere to be, say so, because on a busy Saturday there may be repairs ahead of yours and it is better that you know than that you wait.

Is It Worth Repairing a Phone or Replacing It?

The arithmetic is usually simple. If the repair costs less than a third of what the same phone is worth used, repairing it is almost always the better choice, because a screen replacement returns the handset to full working order and a new phone means a new contract or a new outright purchase. On mid-range and flagship phones under about four years old, that is nearly always the case.

The calculation changes on older handsets. Once a phone stops receiving security updates from Apple or Google, it will keep working but it stops getting patched, and some banking and payment apps eventually refuse to run on it. A screen repair on a phone in that position buys you a working device, not a supported one, and we will say so before you spend the money.

Two other cases push towards replacement. A phone with a swollen battery that has already lifted the screen off the frame often has damage underneath, and a phone that has been through water may work for weeks and then fail from corrosion. We will give you the honest read at the Store rather than take the repair and let you find out.

What Parts Does TechBrotherz Use?

We fit new replacement parts, not salvaged ones pulled from other handsets. On screens that means an assembly with the digitizer and the panel already bonded, which is how the manufacturer supplies them and the only way to get a reliable fit on a modern phone.

Every part we fit is covered by the same 60-day warranty as the labour. If a screen develops dead touch spots, if a battery will not hold the charge it should, or if a port comes loose, bring the phone back with the receipt and we will put it right. The warranty covers the part and our workmanship, and it does not cover a new drop or new water damage, because that is a fresh repair rather than a failure of the last one.

If you want to know exactly which grade of part goes into a specific repair, ask at the Store. We would rather answer the question directly for your model than publish a blanket claim that is not true of every part we stock.

Process

How Does a Repair at TechBrotherz Work?

No appointment, no booking form, and no work starts before you have agreed the price.

  1. Step 1

    Bring the Phone In

No appointment, no booking form. Come to the Store at 3317 17 Ave SE during opening hours and tell us what the phone is doing.

  2. Step 2

We Diagnose It in Front of You

Most faults are visible in a couple of minutes. We check whether the damage is the glass, the picture panel, the battery or the port, because those are four different prices.

  3. Step 3

You Get the Price Before We Start

We quote the full amount, part and labour together, and we do not start until you agree to it. If the phone turns out to need something else once it is open, we stop and ask.

  4. Step 4

We Fit the Part and Test It

Touch across the whole screen, both cameras, the earpiece, the loudspeaker, the microphone and charging all get checked before the phone comes back to you.

  5. Step 5

    You Leave With a Warranty

Every repair is covered for 60 days on the part and the workmanship. Keep the receipt, that is all we need to see.

  • People whose phone battery no longer lasts a working day, or shuts down when it still shows charge left.

Honest Limits

What TechBrotherz Does Not Do

We do not guarantee water-damaged phones

A phone that has been in water can be cleaned and tested, and often works afterwards, but corrosion keeps spreading under components. We will attempt it and tell you what we find, and we will not put a warranty on the outcome.

We do not do board-level microsoldering

If the fault is on the logic board itself rather than a replaceable part, that is specialist work beyond what we do at the Store, and we will tell you rather than take the repair.

We cannot recover data from a dead phone

If a phone will not power on, the data on it is beyond us. Back your phone up before any repair. Screen and battery work does not touch your data, but no repair is a substitute for a backup.
